Sculpture From Found, Repurposed and Created Objects.

My interest in animals started very early in life.  My father was a small animal veterinarian.  In the early years of his practice, he had a pet store as a client.  They would bring in exotic mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds that my dad would treat for various things.  My father also volunteered his labor to the Youth Science Center which had an animal library.  Children could rent pet rats, guinea pigs and other small mammals, reptiles and amphibians, checking them out for a week or so, just like a library book.

My animals are carved or created from various materials such as wood, metal, foam and epoxy clay. The forms are covered in various fabrics and materials, then placed on or with repurposed objects.  The animals are interacting with the objects or with items I have created to give each sculpture a life of its own.  My jewelry skills allow me to create small detailed items to make each scene more engaging.  Each sculpture invites the viewer into my world of make-believe and tells a story.

Bucky Beaver

This beaver was covered in rust printed fabric. The tail and feet were made from an old inner tube and rubber tubing. He holds an oak branch that has been chewed. A leaf was made from etched brass, and an acorn was attached.  Small beetles accent both the branch and acorn.  Mounted on a vintage box. It measures 16”tall x 18”wide x 12”deep. $1400
