Sculpture From Found, Repurposed and Created Objects.

My interest in animals started very early in life.  My father was a small animal veterinarian.  In the early years of his practice, he had a pet store as a client.  They would bring in exotic mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds that my dad would treat for various things.  My father also volunteered his labor to the Youth Science Center which had an animal library.  Children could rent pet rats, guinea pigs and other small mammals, reptiles and amphibians, checking them out for a week or so, just like a library book.

My animals are carved or created from various materials such as wood, metal, foam and epoxy clay. The forms are covered in various fabrics and materials, then placed on or with repurposed objects.  The animals are interacting with the objects or with items I have created to give each sculpture a life of its own.  My jewelry skills allow me to create small detailed items to make each scene more engaging.  Each sculpture invites the viewer into my world of make-believe and tells a story.

Nesting Birds

This piece was created using a friend’s mother’s vintage toy sewing machine that she played with as a child.  A nest was woven out of steel wire and thread with pearls placed inside.  The piece is mounted to a vintage cigar box.  It measures 9”tall x 8”wide x 6”deep. Sold
